Industry Day: BAT Brasil reduces emissions with national technology and exports solution to Asia

On National Industry Day, celebrated on May 25, BAT Brasil highlights the progress made through technological innovation and collaboration with national startups. One of the highlights is the partnership with Aimirim, a company from Uberlândia (MG), which since 2020 has received R$3 million in investments from the company to develop an innovative solution based on machine learning and artificial intelligence. The technology has made the control of boilers and the tobacco drying process more efficient, contributing directly to reducing the factory's carbon emissions.

With an eye on the ESG pillars, the implementation of the solution by the BAT Brazil unit in Uberlândia saved approximately 65 tons of CO₂ per year, adding up to a total reduction of 300 tons by 2025. It was so successful that, in 2024, the technology was exported to the BAT Group's operations in South Korea, strengthening Brazil's role as an exporter of sustainable industrial innovation and connecting the company's activities to various UN Sustainable Development Goals, such as SDGs 9, 12 and 17.

With 47 years of operation in Minas Gerais, the BAT Brasil plant in Uberlândia has established itself as one of the most modern and sustainable in the world, the result of more than R$500 million in investments over the last five years. The plant uses 100% renewable energy, has 375,000 m² of preserved environmental area and serves several Latin American countries.

Since 2020, the unit has adopted a number of sustainable practices, such as: replacing old boilers with highly energy-efficient models; setting up a photovoltaic plant; digital control of the tobacco drying process; reuse of treated water in toilets; internal campaigns for conscious consumption and changing light fittings to LED; and a zero-waste policy in landfills. These actions have contributed to the achievement of international certifications such as Carbon Neutral (PAS 2060), AWS (sustainable use of water), ISO 9001, 14001, 45001, and 50001, reaffirming operational efficiency combined with environmental responsibility.

As well as being an environmental leader, BAT Brasil also stands out in terms of people management. In 2025, the company was recognized for the 14th consecutive time with the Top Employers seal, making it the most certified company in the country. This recognition reinforces BAT's commitment to the well-being, development and inclusion of its nearly 1,000 employees in Uberlândia and its other operations in Brazil.

BAT Brasil is the leader in the Brazilian cigarette market. Founded in 1903 by Albino Souza Cruz, the company is present in around 5,000 municipalities and 250,000 points of sale. With over 4,600 employees, BAT Brasil is recognized as one of the best employers in the country, having been awarded the Top Employer seal for 14 consecutive years. As part of the British American Tobacco group, since 2020 BAT Brasil has been on a Journey of Transformation, with the purpose of Building a Better Tomorrow.
